Modular Synth Patch Generator
This is a randomized patch idea generator for modular synthesizers, for use when you are stuck, out of ideas, or feeling creatively blocked. It is completely random and will suggest things that don't make sense, but that's part of the fun. It's modular, so you can connect pretty much anything to anything, and if you keep experimenting, occasionally you will stumble across something interesting.
1. Load your modules:
Paste ModularGrid data sheets (like this one) or TSV (tab-separated value) spreadsheet data into the text box below. To paste from ModularGrid, "Select All" on the datasheet webpage and paste the entire thing into the text box here. For TSV, the data must be in the following format, and note a header row is required. You can copy and paste this table into the text box to try it:
Name | Modes... | ...modes are freeform and optional... | ...add as many modes/columns as you want... |
---|---|---|---|
A Module I Own | |||
Some Oscillator Thing | VCO | LFO | |
A Dirty Filter | Filter | Distortion | Oscillator (max resonance) |
Another GAS Module | NO INPUTS |
Use the special mode "NO INPUTS" to indicate a module can only be used at the start of a signal flow (this mode will be ignored when suggesting modes to use). Your main output module should be omitted because it is assumed one exists at the end of the signal chain.
The contents of this text box are saved to local storage in your browser, so they will still be here the next time you visit this page in this browser. If you like this tool, consider pasting the text box contents into a spreadsheet to keep a backup.
2. Connect these modules together:
Use the checkboxes to lock in choices and randomize the rest.
3. Use these modules/modes somewhere in the patch:
